This is my friendship with Tara Workman in photograph form. She is the earth, and I am the air. I’m so thankful for her. This has some of her photography aesthetic, in particular the bottom half of the image with the crazy zig-zag abstract work she’s often drawn to. She photographs SO beautifully.

Almost every photography trip I’ve done has been with Tara Workman. She is always there to help level me. My mind is a bit chaotic sometimes, I’m aware. I’m too impulsive, depressed, and maybe a bit too anxious. She will come in and help balance all those instabilities.  I love you.

Throughout the image there is multiple representation of earth and air. There is representation of air with the wind blowing the sand off the top of the two dunes and shaping the land itself. The wind caused the beautiful abstract ripples and helped erode the dunes into their perfect shapes. The earth element representation is the land throughout the image. This duality formed the image before you.

Sandia pinks make me miss my home, New Mexico. If any of you do know, Albuquerque has a gorgeous set of mountains called, “The Sendias”, which turn beautifully pink like the color of watermelon, if weather permits. I’m originally from there. All my life I’ve been separated from family because my father was in the military for 22 years. I don’t hate that, I’m thankful, but I have a longing to call something my “home”. I currently live in Oregon, still separated from them.

The pandemic made me miss my family. It made me realize how important they are. After I lost my grandfather in 2020 and couldn’t be there with family, I lost myself a bit. I’m tired of not being home.

I am doing something about it. I plan to move there soon. I’m tired of missing out. I’m going home.

Incarceration robs one of multiple dignities otherwise afforded to one who is free. I believe prison systems around the world need to be rebuilt from the ground up and emphasis given to humanizing, empowering and rehabilitating those who end up behind high walls.
