Whatupdoe! My name is Curtis Roach. I am a musician and content creator from Detroit, MI. I've been making music in web2 for about 7 years now, mostly releasing via soundcloud and DSPs.  I’ve been looking to expand more into Web3 with my music. 

Most of my music could be described as “feel good rap” so I wanted to drop the same vibe for my first Web3 release. I made this song while I was working on my last project “the joy tape” -  I just felt good that day and wanted to capture it in this vibe. For my first Music NFT I want to give my collectors a musical hug pretty much! 

I’m excited to dive deeper into the music NFT space.  I have been observing and interacting in this beautiful space for a while and learned so much. I’ve met so many great people and made genuine connections with likeminded people who love art. I've been super excited for my first drop and ready to share with y'all this great piece of work.

An artist's journey 

With every project and musical endeavor I always try to approach it with a different perspective, like all artists I assume, in hopes of creating something new. That journey has brought me to the web 3 space and Soundxyz.
 
Like many artists, I’ve spent the last couple years exploring web 3, studying the use cases and trying to pinpoint just exactly where I fit in the space. I always aim to maintain a sense of quality and authenticity with the content I release, even when it may result in great ideas being left on the proverbial cutting room floor. 

‘White Paint’ was one of the songs born from many sessions, originally supposed to land on an EP I made called ‘Vista”. When Sango sent the original beat, and while writing the song I remember thinking “this is different, this is new”. This is the moment we as creatives strive for right? To break new ground within ourselves, taking a risk on you and it actually working out. 

When going over the tracklist for the project, ‘White Paint’ ultimately didn't make it. It may have been too different from what everything else on the EP sounded like. Which unfortunately, was what a lot of music we listen to now sounds like. I have a tendency to second guess an idea that doesn't “fit”, deem it unworthy of consumption, and ultimately regret my decision. 

As an artist the last thing I want to have are regrets when it comes to my output. So with my genesis drop I’m letting it fly, because in the end it won't matter the excuse, only that I again denied myself the opportunity to be vulnerable in my art.

“Explorer” recreates a scene from the movie “Blade Runner 2049” in which the main character embarks on a process of searching for the truth to find out if he is a real being or a man-made artificial intelligence.
In this case, the scene created by me presents this character in total darkness, where everything is visible thanks to the light emanating from the ETH symbol which is a radiating source of energy. And the storyline of this scene gains new meaning as it is a quest for the understanding of the ETH blockchain as the ultimate truth, as a kind of creative source of life, as a kind of light of hope, and at the same time of uncertainty.
It is an ambiguous scene where we cannot be sure whether we are in the presence of the beginning or the end of a journey.

“Crypto ₿oy” is a wake-up call for all the chart-watchers, candle-counters, and JPEG-flippers that find a way to bring crypto into any conversation, no matter what it’s about.

We all know them — checking OpenSea like it’s instagram, obsessing over prices, hodling this, shorting that and unable to focus on anything except Discord.

As exciting as crypto is, and as likely as it is to revolutionize finance in the coming years, I want to shift our attention to a very urgent issue, which is the possibility of SCOTUS overturning Roe v Wade. This attack on reproductive rights is something we should be talking about as loudly as a crypto boy talks about NFTs*. It’s imperative that we band together and fight to protect our fundamental rights. To help bring this together I partnered with Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot, who I love and respect, to create the custom art for this NFT.

100% of the proceeds of the sale of this NFT will be donated to The Center for Reproductive Rights (https://reproductiverights.org), a legal nonprofit that is able to accept donations in cryptocurrency.
