Four Part Harmony

The crystal clear waters of Hawai'i have gifted me so much. I truly know how lucky I am to have been able to call this place home for the last 4 years. Hawai'i has magical healing energy. Enough to uplift and push forward anybody, this i know for sure.

This action shot was captured during a “Board Girls Surf Club” shoot. After the shoot the girls paddled over and caught some waves. I felt the joy watching them. That energy lasted all day for me, something that i needed at the time. The girls out there cheering the other girls on which you can feel in this image. I think that’s the biggest take away. We can learn a lot from cheering each other on in this space, And I’m here for that.

Mahalo for the greatest 4 years, Hawai'i. 
On to the next Adventure life has for me.

Four Part Harmony

This image right away gives me all of the Hawaiian vibes, especially with one of the most recognizable hotels in the background, The Royal Hawaiian - also known as 'The Pink Palace of The Pacific'. A classic surf sled "Guava Jam" shaped by a local, really fits nicely with the pink palace. Summer feels all day when I look at this. All you have to do is find the artist 'Fia' and listen to some of his tunes to understand what i'm saying.

Guava Jam

Depending on where you are on the island and your surroundings, getting palm shadow shots can be quite the task. I was on the east side at the time and the sun was setting behind us - just enough sunlight to shoot, so i sent the drone up. This whole row of palms just beamed into the water. Not the perspective ground level gives, so i felt very lucky to witness. I just flew above for awhile, hovering, taking it all in until they started to slowly get smaller and smaller and eventually vanish into the sand.

Summertime sets are arguably Waikiki's favorite time of the year for long boarders. Waikiki waves are pumping during the summer. I've seen waves in the area that feel like its winter on the North Shore. Can't go wrong with sets and sunset. The perfect Waikiki Combo.

This is one of my favorite photographs, and it means a great deal to me. I have a strong affinity for Asia, and Bangkok, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. It's where I bought my first camera in 2016, and where I began the 6-month journey that launched my photography career in 2018. I graduated from business school in 2017, decided to leave my marketing job, and purchased a one-way ticket to Asia at the start of 2018. Bangkok was the first place I landed on my own, with no real plans.

This was where it all began for me. However, this photograph was taken in January 2020, during my fifth visit there. This location had been on my list for a long time, and it was only during this visit that I was able to visit it. This location was not as well-known at the time as it is now. I'd only seen a few photos of it and knew I had to capture it in a unique way. Only sunrise would work if I wanted to capture this light, so I took a one-hour cab ride across town to get there in time.

Everything just fell into place when I arrived. The light, the haze, the atmosphere. Aside from the shot, it was an incredible experience to be in the temple, hearing the locals pray and welcoming the new day.

Tomorrow is Mother's day.

Every year this time feels a bit weird to me.  People who see my posts on socials may imagine my life is a dream. What most of them don't know is that I'm not the type of person to share personal issues.  It's been almost a year since I've been welcomed in this space, so it is time to get to know each other a little better.

Family is something you can see in a lot of my work. There are reasons for that.

I grew up in a broken family. My father wasn't in the picture for the first 12 years, and my mother struggled with mental health issues and addictions. She was violent and so was the stepfather  I had later on. 

Violence occurred daily, for years. As a child, I was unable to defend myself. I grew up full of guilt because when one is too young to understand adult violence, they tend to think it is all their fault, that somehow they deserve it. It took me years to understand that I did nothing wrong. 

I left home at 17, without a penny and my head full of demons. I became a user for a long time, while playing in a punk rock band. Few years down the road, I managed to stop drinking and get away from the drugs. Since then, I’ve built a career taking care of people and animals through my work.

I often say the ocean saved my life. I really mean it, as it was my only getaway from all of this. It was (and still is) my wonderland, a place where I could stop thinking for a few hours and escape 

My mother died from alcoholism ten years ago. We hadn’t spoken since I left home.

l don’t know how I feel about it. 

While most people would see this image as a representation of a mother’s love, to me it shows a child choosing to reach for the light, as his mother choose to follow a darker path.

A capture of the craziest light display I have ever experienced. A reminder to be the light in a world filled with dark; to shine and spread your light, and to never dim yourself for anyone or anything.

I can’t believe it’s been a year already and the adjustment has been a challenge, but I guess that’s part of why I pushed myself to take this leap in the first place. I’m told that the first year is the hardest and if that’s true, then things are only on the way up from here. Can’t wait to update you again soon.

I took this picture from the edge of a cliff near my home. It is somewhere that I love to go and enjoy my spare time. The ocean is beautiful, and comes in so many different colours.
Every sunrise, every sunset is different, I will never get tired of this place.
What luck to have a subject in perpetual motion just below your house.
Sometimes I put my camera down, sit on the edge of the cliff to admire, think, and tell
myself how lucky I am to live here.

First Contact is a series of artworks by Tom Noske

It follows the story of two beings who have come to earth and taken on a humanoid form. We first find them both in the process of coming to grips with this new form for the first time. They haven't harmed us, or given us any reason to believe that they will. But their familiarity frightens us.

The public have been warned not to engage, and the global authorities are mobilizing to take action. But we don't yet know what they are, what they want, or what they're capable of. All we know is that they look like us, they move like us, they even seem to feel like us, but they aren't us? Right? Leaving us with the dilemma of attempting to control something we think we recognize without fully understanding what "it" even is.

Since I began chasing extreme weather in 2015, I've always envisioned capturing a lightning strike hitting this monolithic structure south of Tucson, Arizona.    This peak, called  "Elephant Head" for its similarity to an elephant from this angle, is a well-known rock climbing destination for professionals and can be seen for miles on the drive south of Tucson.  After countless attempts to capture a strike since 2015, the day finally came on August 27th, 2021 as my camera captured this soliltary bolt appearing to veer around a tiny cloud before slamming right into Elephant Head.

"Harmony" is a photograph I took while trying to make the compositions of the natural blend with those of the man-made. The photograph is an effort to showcase both sides of our planet, the man-made and the natural, side by side.

This shot was taken exactly one year ago, during one of my transformational periods of life, when I lost my favorite travel-related business and didn't know what to do.
Two things that always help me to find myself and understand where to move forward are traveling and photography. 

"The Path" represents two meaningful points.
First of all, each one of us has our own path and we shouldn't compare ourselves to others. Each of us is unique!
Secondly, all of us face difficult situations in life, and sometimes it seems that there is no way out of them. But at some point, the "fog" dissipates, and there is the path ahead that we have been looking for so long.

My whole childhood I’ve spent in a country where LGBTQ+ people are being systematically abused, punished and often killed. In Russia, it is illegal to acknowledge existence of LGBTQ+ people or their rights. It is illegal to look at them as human beings or show any sign of support for them. It is punishable by law to discuss their existence. “Gay Propaganda Law” or “Anti-Gay Law” is that official government law.

Canada

I moved to Canada 4 years ago. Canada is the most LGBTQ+ welcoming country I’ve ever been to along with Scandinavian countries, which were the first to protest trans & LGBTQ+ peoples’ rights.

I wish everyone could feel as safe as I do and have been since I escaped Russia at 16 years old. I wish I could help people who are stuck in places where their lives are ruined. The truth is, as much as we are safe here in the West (yet we also have a lot of problems and things to work on to make it a better place) most of the world’s population does not have that privilege. I made this edition to celebrate the Pride Month. I hope everyday the world is becoming a better and safer place for anyone who is oppressed. Let’s finally vibrate higher all together. We don’t need this. No to any kind of oppression.

This house at Woodbine Beach in Toronto has nothing to do with LGBTQ+ except the flag which it had on its pole to show support for inclusivity. But for me, this house symbolizes the safety Canada & Canadians have granted me. I will be forever grateful and thankful for what I have today. There are things we take for granted. A lot of things. But we have a lot to be grateful for. I wish everyone could say the same. I wish everyone to be safe and respected. 

There are two men in this picture. A dad and his son. The dad was turning 89 years old that day. It was my first week in Canada as an immigrant. They were taking photos around the beach area. I came up to them and said: “It’s hard to believe that it’s legal to have this flag just like this, hanging here, without being arrested or assaulted!”, to which the two laughed and the older guy said: “Never thought of it that way. Welcome to Canada young man.” That was the moment I knew it was the safe space.

She carried out her mission conscientiously, centuries after centuries. 

As memories became dreams,  as dreams became legends and myths,  Hina seems to have merged with her mother, Marama, into a single deity. 

She continues to inspire fascination and admiration.  

In many civilizations, the moon has been adored as a symbol of fertility, and is still adored to this day, combining mysteries, fears and passions.
