We always thought it was hilarious how six steps later, you could go from a crudely drawn circle to a complex illustration of an anthropomorphic bomb. | Background Story: 
Horizontal stripes, especially of the yarn-dyed variety, are a staple of The Hundreds' collection. Earlier on, they were derived from the surf knits and beachgoer patterns that graced the backs of Californians in the 1980s. Examples include Hang Ten, OP, Quiksilver, and Gotcha. In the following decade, independent skate brands and rave companies capitalized on stripes across boxy, baggy tops. Whether they're fatter stripes across neighborhood-sanctioned Charlie Browns or pinstripes across suiting or a baseball jersey, The Hundreds' stripes speak to a spectrum of subcultures.

We've consistently returned to leopard print over the years because of its ties to classic Americana, punk music, '80s throwbacks, and high fashion. The Frankly series imagined leopard print in a series of oddball colors that lined up with The Hundreds' aesthetic.| Background Story: 
Originating in Scotland as ""tartan,"" we now call this pattern of crisscrossed lines ""Plaid."" Growing up in Southern California during the '80s and '90s, plaid beach volleyball shorts were always in our purview, thanks to labels like Mossimo and Stüssy. When we elevated to making cut-n-sew apparel like button-ups in the early 2000s, plaids made their way into our language as a nod to both the surf culture of the West Coast and Polo's influence on the East. In fact, every plaid speaks to a different subculture. Buffalo plaids were woven into the early New York hip-hop lumberjacks. Shadow plaids on swap meet Pendletons. And The Hundreds plaids, for all.
