EtherID is the one of the earliest ownable and transferable DNS projects on the Ethereum blockchain, launched on Nov 29, 2015. The project was created by developer Alexandre Naverniouk, and is a precursor to the Ethereum Name Service (ENS). It also precedes both ERC-20 and ERC-721 token standards. In EtherID's smart contract, the project is referred to as the Ethereum Name Registrar. The total EtherID supply for the years 2015 to 2018 is 33,721. Please note that all EtherIDs may be renewed for up to 2 million blocks (~9 months). Therefore, like ENS, it's necessary to renew them periodically. The contract was upgraded, 32,301 assets migrated, and verified on June 28th, 2016. 

The domain name is a hex value, interpretable as a UTF8 encoded string. Since EtherID domains are a key/value pair, you can store “values” (IPFS, Arweave etc.) in them and have it resolved via various methods. The EtherID smart contract features a fully trustless on-chain marketplace, launched before OpenSea. Therefore, it needs a wrapper to make it compatible with the ERC-721 standard. This wrapper allows you to access many functions available for an EtherID in its unwrapped native form.

ENSpepes are a collection of 10,000 unique Pepe the Frog NFTs that live on the Ethereum blockchain. They are more than just digital collectibles, though. ENSpepes can be used to represent ownership of a Pepe the Frog avatar on the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), and they can also be staked to earn rewards in the form of PEPEMP tokens. PEPEMP tokens can then be traded on the PEPE Marketplace, a decentralized exchange (DEX) that is currently under development.

When we launched Base, we set base.org as our onchain identity via ENS because that was the best domain we had.

Recently, in recognition of how we’ve built Base, an anonymous stranger gifted us base.eth. They did this as a recognition of our commitment to decentralization and open source, two values which we will continue to uphold.

We believe that onchain is the next online and that .eth better represents that ethos than .org. Therefore, from this moment forward, we are proud to rock base.eth as our primary onchain identity via ENS.
