*SILICA* is a series of 50 animated digital paintings made with a custom real-time painting software that builds on the tradition of color field painting. Each piece is uniquely generated through a stochastic generative process involving simulated paintbrushes, limited colour palettes, video feedback, and graphics quantization algorithms. The brush strokes repeat themselves continuously producing layered colour mixtures which bleed together and are then quantized and separated into limited colors. Like halftone images, the resulting texture is a kind of primer on digital colour theory, where dithered pixels produce the illusion of a mixed colour. The animations loop seamlessly and are made of 90 unique individual still frames. Each animation is formatted as a 720x960 GIF.S

*SILICA* is part of the group exhibition *Imperfections*. Through a series of long form projects by generative artists, this exhibition explores the role imperfections play in great artworks, and how the pursuit of artistic perfection appears to be a paradoxical endeavour.

took some time the other day, dropped off film at my local lab. 
a few rolls of sweet green fujifilm. i cant put an exact date on "when" these photos were taken, and thats sort of beautiful. 
film has no provenance, or at least if you turn off the date-timer it doesn't. 
this photograph of wilted roses became my favourite of the roll.  
i spent that evening trying to capture the emotional essence these flowers-of-despair had through analog methods of print + scan.

Commonly referred to as "Cham Boss", Seeyaye was born in 2995 to wealthy parents on dwarf planet, Gliese 667Cc. With a career that involved bootlegging, kidnapping, and bank robbery, Gustavo's upbringing did little to sway him from a life of crime. Both he and his Robot A.I., Kathlyn, terrorized banks throughout the Midwest Badlands and throughout Mega City. In 2933, Seeyaye and his gang kidnapped famous synth sleeve tycoon, Carlos Urschill. 

Although they did receive a ransom, Gustavo and Katlryn were later caught and sentenced to life in cryo-prison. In one of his famous mugshots, Seeyaye is wearing a black gangster top hat known as "Sweet Pea".  With the Blue Fire Diamond set within, allowing him to escape from captivity, however, in the escape, his face was viciously maimed, and Kathlyn's core code was set free within the mainframe and is currently being held captive by Somnus, as his new muse.

Gus will stop at nothing to see her returned to him... but what more will he have to go through to get his revenge.

Terraforms by Mathcastles. Onchain land art from a dynamically generated, onchain 3D world.

paper, something unfathomed emerges, something unexpected”

One of Erik Satie’s infrequent excursions into chamber music, the *Fugue à tâtons* (1913) is 
contemporary to his humorous piano compositions, and created in a similar spirit. *Fugue à 
tâtons* is a satirical reinvention of Baroque musical forms, enhanced by Satie’s characteristic witty 
titles and performance directions. A repetitive, childlike theme, a loosely woven fugue initiated by 
the piano “with silly but convenient naïveté”, and yet a complex and significant musical piece.

Curiously, Spanish architect Enric Miralles used the title *Fuga a tientas* (the Spanish translation of 
Erik Satie’s title) in 1987, for the second volume of his doctoral dissertation, a text that was 
deemed unreadable by the thesis’ panel. Miralles’ essay narrates how sketching can be seen as a 
form of writing, a creative act that happens when thinking moves forward through interruptions, 
when it stops at its beginnings, when it is produced by repetition. 

This *Fuga a Tientas* on Verse, 2023, explores how its form of writing, namely “coding”, can 
likewise be conceived as a form of sketching, or how unexpected shapes and colours emerge 
from simple geometric operations when imperfect repetition is celebrated. The artworks are fully 
composed by horizontal lines and simple shapes travelling through imperfect flow fields, offering a 
characteristically bright and cheerful aesthetic that is homage to both Erik Satie and Enric 
Miralles’s intellectual legacies. *Fuga a Tientas* is the coming-of-age of the Enfantines (fxhash, 
2022) algorithm, still childlike but now a more sophisticated and yet imperfect exploration of form 
and counterform, sound and colour.

With two modes that won’t produce the same outputs, *Fuga a tientas* is best experienced twice. 
In music mode, the code uses Satie’s fugue as a way of taming randomness, the sounds affecting 
the colours and intensities of the triangles. This is the last stop of the journey, gazing into 
unexplored lands.
