She Sews the Future with her Affection is part of an ekphrastic poetry series by Adam Stewart. In this we see a Goddess perched compassionately on one leg as she sews her love and affection into those who petition her.

These paintings are all created for survivors of sexual assault. The originals will never be sold but only used to share awareness. Survivors of assault may report feeling unclean and unseen. Social stigma has taken the voice of many survivors.

The flower is selected by the participants. It becomes a simulacrum of their body, perfect and beautiful. The eye is an abstract of the participants eye to retain anonymity but for them to feel seen. It allows me to see and focus on only them throughout the process. The leaves may be sewn shut, open or partially open representing their ability to discuss what happened.

We see you. Their story is as follows. They were a teenager when someone close to them was married. The couple forced them into a relationship they did not want. They have never shared what growing up. They are now a grandparent and felt this was the first time they could express and share what happened. That someone took the time to listen and make them feel whole. They are truly a beautiful soul.

We see you. Their story is as follows. They were in high school. They were attacked after school but managed to escape and another person protected them. They began dating the person who protected them. They were at a band competition when their partner pulled them into a room and locked the door and betrayed their trust. They felt nobody would believe them because the school handled the first incident poorly accusing them of lying. They found out a year later their second attacker had done it to others as well. They ended up moving cities and entering counseling to heal. They are now doing well on their healing journey and we wish to remind them of their strength, perseverance and self worth.
