This series delves into a glitch style technique called pixel sorting, which is generally known to be used as a post-processing method in photography. Pixel sorting is a procedure that isolates segments of pixels and sorts their positions based on any number of criteria (i.e. luminosity, hue, saturation). 

Assorted Positivity is a generative approach to making pixel sorting art without any photographic base. The algorithm uses several types of noise to generate an initial design, each one unique to the token and specifically conducive to pixel-sorting. The sorting displaces pixels in various directions based on their grayscale value; and hues determine how the sorting ends. Sometimes the sorting lends itself to a sort of drip look and other times it presents itself as depth and shading.

This project was initially influenced by my desire to sort past the ubiquitous negativity online and focus on the positivity, generosity, and genuine thoughtfulness that I have witnessed around this genart space--with collectors, artists, and people who simply appreciate the community.

Integrated into each piece is an uplifting adjective that is visible, yet blended into the art. At a glance, the viewer may not notice the steganographic message that is conveyed by an international visual method of telegraphing words. Each word is one that I imagine being used to describe people in the community, their actions, artists, and/or their work.

Every output brings me joy, and is a reminder to treat others with kindness and positivity.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward the international Make-A-Wish Foundation in the hopes of bringing some joy to critically ill children around the globe.

Ribbons: Two Sheets in Blue (2022)

Pixels are to computer screens as lines are to plotters. If you draw many pixels in the same place you are left with a single pixel, but if you draw many lines in the same place you are left with a torn sheet of paper.

"Ribbons" are an algorithm I developed to elevate the line by giving it depth, width, and the presence to occlude its neighbors, ultimately preserving the page they are drawn upon.

The seven pieces exhibited in this series are a small sample of the range this algorithm has, each chosen to highlight the delightful complexity that emerges from carefully overlapping many lines.

This token is a high-resolution scan of the associated physical plotter artwork. Both the digital token and the physical plot are intended to be held by the same individual. Redemption of the physical plot is optional. The buyer shall be responsible for the cost of shipping and framing. Until the physical plot is redeemed, it will stay in the custody of the artist. It is the responsibility of the previous owner to transfer the physical plot to the new owner in the event of a sale. The physical will not be replotted by the artist.

Heartstrings is a collection of 400 AI-assisted art pieces that capture the magic of childhood and the wonder of imagination. Inspired by my new daughter and the art I wanted to create for her room, the collection features a mix of real-life landscapes and fantasy elements, representing fleeting memories from childhood. Some pieces represent actual scenes from my past, while others are inspired by books I’ve read as a kid.

Light Years is a project from generative artist Dmitri Cherniak in partnership with The Estate of László Moholy-Nagy. It is an homage to the photogram as a medium, but with a digitally native twist. Each of the 100 unique editions was created by a code-based generative system, then hand-prepared and printed to a film negative. A high definition scan of the negative was used to develop the image as a silver gelatin print which can be claimed by the first collector of the artwork.

*Postcards from StarryNight* is an exclusive series of NFTs created from a restored version of an early work of net art. Proceeds from this NFT will support Rhizome, a non-profit organization that has championed the cause of digital art since 1996. Glaciations is a generative system exploring the 2d Fourier transform of basic geometric shapes to create dream-like compositions.

Light and shadow define the space of our lives. Influence our thoughts, memories, wishes and dreams. Reality and irreality touch and connect in various points in our minds, being lucid and illucid at the same time. Through light and shadow we see the presence of what is not there (lo que no está). Our gone loved ones. The things we aspire to but are not here yet. The things that will never be. The outer world which we can only imagine, as it is outside of the bounds of our mind and existence. This project is inspired in the streaks of light on the walls we inhabit, by the shadows, by the dreams we create, the illusions we have. The colours and volumes of architecture, through light and shadow, have always played a vital role in the activities I carry around within any given space. The project is a tribute to those spaces, to those thoughts, to the architects that through colour and space bring the possibility of reflecting on those matters.

I am interested in the notion of a work that is not represented only by one single view, one single artifact. Much like music, dance and any other performing art, which cannot be grasped in one single shot, some of my pieces aim at encouraging exploration that delves into the same realm. The preview image is, then, precisely just that: a preview of a little world that the piece contains. The piece lets the viewer generate infinite views over its small universe, yielding different sets of parameters, angles, distortions. Life is maybe the same thing: our changing view of our world, subject to our mood, expectations, recent experiences, memories, etc. Some day we feel bright, next day it's all a distorted, surreal version of the same thing, which feels like a different reality. But it isn't. 

The project has a number of commands that allow for exploration of the work. Press s to save the current image (it will download other files as well). Append ?pd=3 to the URL in live view to set pixel density to 3 (increasing resolution). You can try with arbitrary N as long as your graphics card supports it.

In aerial photos from 1945, you can see dozens of buildings crammed around the main street of Gallarta - a town 13 km northwest of Bilbao. The street leads to a small open pit where they extract iron. Images from 1956 and 1965 show how the road becomes shorter, and houses once surrounded by fields are now on the pit's edge. Some of them disappeared to facilitate access to the ore. The mine grew, consuming mountains, meadows, and settlements.

Gallarta disappeared in 1977, replaced by a chasm extending across the area until today. The open pit extraction in the mine stopped being profitable only six years later. The scar it left on the surface of the mountainous area is a monument to the disappearance of this and numerous other towns with similar stories.

Cantera is a project that brings these stories to a non-physical, generative space. It replaces atoms of stone and soil with digital bits. It draws landscapes inspired by the imagery of Basque stone quarries and iron mines and writes narratives about non-existent habitats where the boundaries between extraction, shelter, and natural forms become indistinct.

Agar is a generative art project inspired by abstract expressionism, pixel art, and the grid rules studied in graphic design. Color, the essential element of pixel art, gives life to simple shapes and defines a composition. Playing against the rigidity of a pixel grid, Agar exuberantly uses 100 different color palettes—each one appearing exactly once in the 100 outputs.

The series embraces the aesthetics of pixel art while reimagining its formal constraints. Instead of using only squares, Agar introduces circles as another basic shape. The squares and circles are arranged on a regular grid, but they vary in size—within a fixed set of eight dramatically varying scales—to create dynamic compositions.

The title comes from a gelatinous substance, derived from seaweed, that is used to grow bacteria and other microorganisms in petri dishes. It relates to the idea of cellular life forms growing on the matrix of a pixel grid, and the diversity of shapes and colors that can be found in nature. Agar asks: what if squares and circles are the building blocks of digital life? What forms might evolve to live on the screen?

Agar is a celebration of the beauty possible within constraints. Through color, it invites us to imagine new forms of life and art on the digital canvas.

One of the many intersections of art and mathematics is the field of patterns and symmetries. 

This project explores the visual expression of various planar symmetries by using colourful, maze-like structures. The precision of these mathematical patterns are offset by a playful use of dimensionality and an imperfect grid as basis for the linework.

Take Root is a generative artwork depicting the beauty and fragility of a seedling just as it has emerged from the ground, in the rain.  

“It represents to me my own ongoing flourishing as an artist and the vulnerability, excitement, and pure potential therein.  While the aesthetics, coloring, style, and content of the piece are highly intentional… a certain amount of randomness has been incorporated, representing the unpredictability of the environment that we (and nature) must contend with as we grow, and how it shapes us.”

The artwork is generated in pure code using Javascript and a GLSL shader, aiming to mimic a photograph of a real seedling, using only (thousands of) ellipses and (a few) blurs.

Nuclear Nerds of the Accidental Apocalypse is not just a simple collection of 8,999 male and female NFTs, it is a jumping-off point for a narrative story world that will be told through a series of future drops and unique mechanics. Our character's needs, wants, hopes, dreams, and goals will guide the way forward while token holders will help co-write the story.

The birth of an ambitious collaboration between iconic brands. A world first exploration into the marriage of fine art, high performance sport and data science. 

This gateway piece, The Exposition, looks back on 18 years of Andy Murray’s Wimbledon career data. Analysed with complex algorithms the colour bursts define the drama, the rivalries and the Championship victories.  

The Open Edition will fittingly launch 7/7, 10 years exactly after Andy Murray’s first Wimbledon win. The project will then evolve organically, with live data collection during this year’s Championships. This opening piece will unlock future opportunities within the story, with further artwork collaborations being explored between Andy Murray, Wimbledon and Refik Anadol for the coming months.

Working from IBM’s Championships data, scientists and developers have created a unique algorithm to create this fine art digital sculpture, using millions of inputs from statistics, motion, audio and visual data. It reimagines how high-performance sport data can be understood and enjoyed in a strikingly visual way.

Renowned media artist, director and pioneer in the aesthetics of machine intelligence, Refik Anadol will act as advisor for the inaugural collection, and collaborate on the next phases of the project. He is the Director of Refik Anadol Studio in Los Angeles and Lecturer in UCLA’s Department of Design Media Arts. Anadol’s work locates creativity at the intersection of humans and machines. Taking the data that surrounds us as primary material, and the neural network of a computerized mind as a collaborator, Anadol offers us radical visualizations of our digitized memories and expands the possibilities of interdisciplinary arts.

Holders of this Open Edition will also latterly have the exclusive right to buy a physical print edition of the artwork, produced by partners Avant Arte - an example of how this innovative project strives to blend the digital and physical worlds.  

New storylines await us, and Wimbledon will once again be Always Like Never Before. 

The project is curated and produced by web3 consultancy FAN3, and this piece provides an accessible entry point to the unique collaboration.
