This work is part of my series "Color, Balance" where bodily artifacts removed from fashion photography become the base for paintings I create in Photoshop. I add subtle layers of digital paint and push pixels to blend the figure’s remnants into the background. I use color as a spatial feature, shifting away the boundary of the body to further blur lines between abstraction and figuration. An aspect of my practice engages the use of computer software that removes all traces of my hand— the process iterates the disappearance of the physical body on and off the screen.

Spotify Playlists of a Teenager (2021) is based on my daughter's Spotify account. Late in 2020, she started to create a long list of Spotify playlists. She included pretty much all the genres that interested her, stylized the look of the lists, added photos and catchy names. 

I asked her permission to use some of her playlists in an artwork that would kind of mark the occasion and remind us of a lighter side of the times we're living in and how a teenager approaches, listens to and deals with music.

That music which itself plays a vital role in how we all cope with life.

With this work, I aim to express the complexity of 21st-century identity, and the disconnect between the body and those around us. Physical works from this series where shown at my solo exhibition “I Am A Portrait” at Undercurrent, Brooklyn in January 2020.

My first work on KnownOrigin. This work is a play upon the grumpy cat, with my own vibrant colors and story. while I was working on this painting I added quite a few layers and suddenly I found a solution for this artwork to let the eyes look up, and let it rain.

Figural Moments focuses on the process of cloning in Photoshop, which involves sampling one area to cover an imperfection in another point of the same digital photograph. The clustered imagery in my work are the results of cloned bits of flesh and decor taken from dozens of captured fashion images. A blend of figure and background, these new images made me think about the relationship to Gestalt psychology, which focuses on ones ability to maintain meaningful perceptions in an apparently chaotic world. The phrase 'figural moments' is understood as "group of objects that resemble one another more or less completely...and is the 'place' beyond which the authentic is lost and can be regained only by resorting to the symbolic".
