'nobody loves you' explores the themes of isolation and loneliness, as well as a personal struggle with mental illness. This record was written after a string of tragic deaths of peers in the music industry, as well as the loss of a family member. 'nobody loves you' delves into the idea that we often wait until it's too late to really show our love, appreciation and respect for each other. 

It was written by Sara Phillips, and produced with Mike Daley and Mitchell Owens. 

10% of all primary sales of this record will be donated to the The Trevor Project - focused on suicide prevention and providing 24/7 crisis support services to LGBTQ young people. Thank you so much for helping this incredibly important cause.

"After" is a glimpse in to the combination of sound experimentation and songwriting that is so integral to Koastle. It pushes the boundaries of our sound design in tandem with a powerful hook that delivers an emotional experience filled with both excitement and somberness - a raw collection of feelings left open to interpretation. 

"After" is the first edition of our new project called Koastcards. Each month we will be traveling to a new location to present 4 new releases that will drop each week:

Koastcards is a check-in with all of our fans, to catch them up on our travels, our releases and our journey - an invitation to come alongside us in experiencing the good times we haven't had yet. 

For this first episode of Koastcards we are traveling to San Onofre, CA - a staple in Southern California for its remote surf beaches and untouched coastal landscape. This marks a perfect spot for us to debut this new project debuting officially in January 2023.

State of Sound Vol. 1 #146

Several years ago, seemingly out of nowhere, my mind sort of betrayed me. 

I had developed an anxiety disorder that was, in a word, crippling. 
'Panic disorder', my doctor called it. 
In a nutshell, my mind would play games on me. When explaining it  to people now, I sometimes say to imagine that heightened anxiety or fear you get when something scares you (a feeling that usually dissipates after you realize you aren't in real danger) as a permanent feeling. Like the pit you get in your stomach during the free-fall of a rollercoaster ride, except it never goes away. 

At the time, I felt like I couldn't talk to anyone about what I was feeling because I thought no one would understand- I myself barely understood what was happening to me. It was an incredibly scary and lonely experience, (that fortunately I was eventually able to come out of thanks to therapy and medication), and I really felt like a complete stranger to myself and to everyone around me.  

I wrote 'has anybody seen me?' about that time. 

I really hope you enjoy this record. It was produced by two incredible producers, Mike Daley and Mitchell Owens. 

10% of the sales of this record will go directly to one of my favorite organizations, The Loveland Foundation, providing opportunity, therapy and healing to communities of color, especially for Black women and girls. Thank you for helping support this incredibly important organization.

Danger Zone is the intro track from the Danger Zone EP, the genesis NFT collection from the Danger Zone DAO. Where Dorothy tells the story of the old, and I tell the story of the new. 

The project consists of seven songs, each with its own 7 Deadly Sin artwork. With this one being Greed, each sin represents a part of the song that, deep down, relates to a part of my life.

Hey y’all,

We’re Andy and Brett, the brains and braun behind Koastle, an indie-electronic duo from Orange County, CA. This is our genesis drop on Sound and we are so stoked to be here with you all. A little about us, we both been making music since we were 14. Brett started as a DJ making mashups and mixes and Andy making beats that were about as trash as gas station sushi. Upon meeting in college, we joined forces and taught each other everything we knew. Next thing we knew, 7 years later we're still doing this little music thing. 

We started Koastle in 2021 with the intention to bring to our audience an audio-visual experience unlike any other. We aim to combine our art both visually and sonically to create a world that feels familiar yet is experienced in a surrealistic way. Koastle is all about the good times we haven't had yet. It's an invitation to join us for memories that will last a life time. That is why we create and our goal is to create a world that represents that intention. 

We have a lot of respect for the world of Web3. As artists who have been in the thick of the traditional web2 music business structure, we often found ourselves tired of the inefficiency and the power it takes away from our artistry. We have a vision and a goal for where we want to take this brand and web3 reflects the autonomy that we need to be the artists we aspire to be. Recently have decided to go fully independent with our music, to take control of this vision we have for our music and our brand and for the next year we will be dropping a new piece of music a week for the next 12 months. For those of you who purchase our drop today (and any Koastle drop in the future) you'll be added in to a private discord channel where we will tell you more about this new season of Koastle. 

We've been in the web3 community for a while now, but this is our first ever official drop in the web3 space. We wanted to make sure we brought an experience that respects the nature of web3, that provides value to those of you who invest in us. this track holds such a dear place in my heart. i had been a fan of Night Tapes for a few years after hearing their record Forever, which is still one of my favorite tracks of all time. when i got to London they hit me up to work, and after a few buses and cabs i made it to their South London home studio. we shared stories and snacks in a nearby park, and then got started. 

we messed around for a while on some ideas, until they pulled up this synth line that i was immediately swept into, and we dove head first into the energy until 5 in the morning. they gave me the physical tape we recorded a lot of the parts on, and i remember leaving their place with the sun rising and the song looping on my phone. 

when i got back to LA i realized it stood to represent all the things daddy's money was made to, and hit them up to see if they were down to be on the album. really humbled and excited to have them on it and bring them into the space!

right before i left for europe on my own i had mallory over to my place in venice beach, and we cooked this up real quick and then i took off. when i got back i realized it sort of fit perfectly into the world of daddy's money, it was ethereal and just sounded like being in the clouds on the way to paradise, sipping champagne and ginger ale.

My entire life revolves around making music. Every day I wake up, brush my teeth, go on a run, and basically make songs until the sun goes down. If I had to estimate, I probably make close to 30 songs/mini ideas per month - and that’s being very conservative.

Out of the 300+ song ideas that I make per year, I realistically only get 12-15 at bats to show DSPs what I’m working on. Often times, that curation has to do with what artists are on what song, who else is releasing in the same week, and a bunch of other politics that don’t make a ton of sense. 

Releasing music shouldn’t be complicated.

Kevin George sent me this acapella last week as my flight from Miami back home to LA was taking off. I produced the entire thing from start to finish on the flight. I tweaked it that night, bounced it and played it at the Glass House release party the next day.

I’m putting this song out to challenge the notion that every song has to have the perfect roll out and campaign. If you love a record, put it out. It doesn’t matter if it took you 3 hours or 3 years 💛

it was my last day in Italy and i had reserved a 125cc Vespa to take around town exploring Naples. when i got to the rental place though, i was informed they had messed up and rented the scooter to someone else. the only one they had left was 300cc, and was ready to be picked up a few miles away at the airport. i had met this girl while i was in croatia that ended up in italy with us, and since she had nothing to do that day she asked to tag along for whatever roads my two wheels ended up on. so we hopped in a Fiat and went to the airport to grab the freeway legal Vespa.

it was there that i found out that the Amalfi Coast was 40 minutes away, and since i had been dreaming of riding a moped down its winding roads since i was a kid, i took one look at my co-pilot and told her to hold on tight. 

we followed the Italian road signs as best we could and after making a few wrong turns we ended up in Amalfi, drinking Aperol Spritzes in the ocean. we went all the way to Sorento, after after another Aperol we made the impulse decision to get matching Vespa tattoos.

by the time we finished, it was about an hour til sundown, so we started making our way back to Naples for dinner with some friends. Naples is more or less West of Amalfi, which meant i was literally driving into the sun. i was nervous and crazy focused, and this song started looping in my head. i asked olivia to take my phone out and start a voice memo, and right there, on the highway of Naples, driving into the sun was born. i didn't change a single word from that initial recording, which i ended up sampling throughout the song.

this is the last song on daddy's money, but daddy's money has no ending. daddy's money is infinite, and daddy's money is for the people. long live daddy's money.

This will be the first song on our first album in 4 years. 

It almost didn’t happen. 

Before the pandemic we had gotten so exhausted and jaded for a moment it felt like we might walk away. Then the world ended. And for the first time in 8 years we were apart. In those lost months we remembered how much Marian Hill means to us, and means to all of you. How the connection we find through our music is literally magic. And we knew we needed to finish this record.

Marian Hill gave both of us the lives we'd always dreamed of, and kept us going during the worst year of our lives. When Samantha found herself turning 30 in her childhood bedroom and Jeremy suffered an onset of chronic pain in both of his wrists, the music we made gave us moments of joy to hold onto in a world full of uncertainty. For a few moments each day, we could get lost in a song, and pretend we were playing it for you.

This song in some ways feels like a message from that time to eternity. When we started thinking of the lyrics we were really thinking about us as a band, us as songwriters...will we be remembered? Do people still care? Will anyone care in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years?

It’s also about wondering if an ex will remember you once the relationship is far in the rearview.

And about if any of our art will last as climate change escalates to world-ending levels.

Steve went to middle school and high school with us and has toured with us since the very beginning. I met DEEGAN my first week living in Los Angeles. I was at a show watching a friend perform when I got a tap on the shoulder - I thought I was going to run into one of my other friends who recently moved cross country with me but instead I was greeted by a total stranger. He introduced himself and I immediately recognized him after having worked with his cousin months prior.

The next day I did a deep dive on his catalog and invited him over to my place for a session. I remember being blown away by the weird noises he could produce with just his voice alone. I realized he was the type of creative that wouldn't try to structure out the perfect song - he would let me do whatever I wanted to do. And creatively that's exactly what I needed. 

Over the years DEEGAN and I have worked on so many records together. From our early days making bleeps and bloops on my computer to his 2 features on Overstimulated, to the writing camp I put together in Malibu, DEEGAN has consistently been one of my favorite people to work with - not only for his musical abilities - but for his undeniable personality that lights up every room he's in. 

Bittersweet is a record that I started on last summer and sent to DEEGAN at the end of last year. When I was looking for a song to drop on Sound, I came across this topline but the production felt outdated. I ended up manically sitting with it for 72 hours and this is the result that came out. It's a preview of my new direction sonically.

This song is about the mixed emotions one feels after a breakup: The happiness of not having to deal with their toxic behavior anymore, and the sadness in losing all of the good parts about them. 

Over the past few months I felt the need to step out of my comfort zone. If you're familiar with my music you'd probably know that I am an electronic music producer, but why should I limit myself to that? 
This is a special song, very different from what I usually put out.
No drums, no "drops", just a piano and a few pads.
This emotion driven record is dedicated to my girlfriend, who always pushes me to be the best version of myself both as a person and as a producer.

Push is the final offering from a larger body of work I've been teasing out since August 2021 with singles 'Covet', 'Take' and most recently 'Step Down' (my genesis Sound drop!). The collection of songs are about regaining power and autonomy, whatever it takes to get it back. PUSH demands space and attention, coupling seduction with frustration. It's my favourite track to play live and is a true indication of where the BRUX project is heading next...wonkier & louder club tracks with a tonne of attitude.

hey i’m alec. from denver, in los angeles. this song is called jojo. it’s a first class seat on my train of thought through the rollercoaster of heartbreak. i’ve always wanted to do a song structured like this; a full beat switch. it’s an a side & b side of jojo. the perk of finally being an independent artist is that there is no chatter in my ears telling me “4 minutes is too long!” “jojo isn’t relatable enough for a song title!” “don’t use demo vocals” “why would you have a pig on a leash as the artwork, it doesn’t make sense!” i can keep going because this is fun but you get the point. i think this song encapsulates the experience of dealing with heartbreak while simultaneously having a career where you make those feelings very public. there is no other job where your next partner will know exactly how you felt about the last one. that’s jojo.
