While working on this record I was aware that this didn’t sound anything like how I’m supposed to.  But I guess that’s why it excited me.  I always talk with artists I work with and we frequently get on the subject of how their music never sounds like what they actually like to listen to.  I always thought that was odd, almost wrong.  Mirror sounds like the type of music that I…usually listen to.  Not all the time, but if I’m on a plane or just cooling out…I’m playing stuff like Bon Iver, the Shins, Modest Mouse… Almost calming, soul nurturing records. I was laughing with a friend about how everyone’s always trying to make the hardest most in your face record (which I’ve done dozens of times), and about the power in the opposite.  

I’ve been working on this record for 2 years and always knew it would eventually come out, just needed to find the right time.  I played this last week for my friend Rey, who is one of my favorite painters/artists probably living, his response was “I can’t believe you made this”.  That’s probably the best thing I could have heard.

The songs about being honest with yourself, even about the ugly shit.  It’s a tune of ambivalence.  And is sort of on the subject of not knowing.  Not exactly being sure.  Trying to face yourself but the image keeps changing.  Trying to see what is actually there, and what you’re just dreaming up.   I think today people can toxically be like, “Face your demons! Change your life! Get your act together!”  I think it’s way more complex than that and that we are constantly shape-shifting.  Sometimes you’re the fool, sometimes you’re a genius, sometimes criminal.  The song sort of deals with facing all of these sides. 


My good friend and touring partner Sol Was played bass on it, his brother Henry played the drums. Johan Lenox did the strings and backgrounds.  Hope you enjoy.

It’s gone through many revisions (one that even dropped on LNRZ with Bloody White and Clear Eyes). The final version is releasing on DSPs on Jan 27th and it features Reo Cragun.

Several years ago, seemingly out of nowhere, my mind sort of betrayed me. 

I had developed an anxiety disorder that was, in a word, crippling. 
'Panic disorder', my doctor called it. 
In a nutshell, my mind would play games on me. When explaining it  to people now, I sometimes say to imagine that heightened anxiety or fear you get when something scares you (a feeling that usually dissipates after you realize you aren't in real danger) as a permanent feeling. Like the pit you get in your stomach during the free-fall of a rollercoaster ride, except it never goes away. 

At the time, I felt like I couldn't talk to anyone about what I was feeling because I thought no one would understand- I myself barely understood what was happening to me. It was an incredibly scary and lonely experience, (that fortunately I was eventually able to come out of thanks to therapy and medication), and I really felt like a complete stranger to myself and to everyone around me.  

I wrote 'has anybody seen me?' about that time. 

I really hope you enjoy this record. It was produced by two incredible producers, Mike Daley and Mitchell Owens.

'nobody loves you' explores the themes of isolation and loneliness, as well as a personal struggle with mental illness. This record was written after a string of tragic deaths of peers in the music industry, as well as the loss of a family member. 'nobody loves you' delves into the idea that we often wait until it's too late to really show our love, appreciation and respect for each other. 

It was written by Sara Phillips, and produced with Mike Daley and Mitchell Owens. 

10% of all primary sales of this record will be donated to the The Trevor Project - focused on suicide prevention and providing 24/7 crisis support services to LGBTQ young people. Thank you so much for helping this incredibly important cause. 

nobody loves you #53

I released the official production of “Grateful” a few weeks ago, and I wanted to try something new on here. First off, as a thank you to everyone who collected the first edition, you are all receiving this drop for free! And to anyone who wasn’t able to collect the official drop (*cough cough my dad*) this one is for you. This release is actually the first demo that I made of “Grateful” back in 2020. The execution of the vocal is emotional yet super raw, and the lyrics aren’t quite as locked as the official drop, but there is a magic to it that I am so in love with and I think deserves to be appreciated too. Which, of course, made me think of you all! I love the idea of web3 setting the standard for a new artist/fan/friend relationship, and I want my work here to reflect that. This drop for me represents the opening of my green-room, and a welcome to my studio, where I get to share all the mistakes along the way, all the lessons learned, and all of the fun behind writing and producing music I love. Y’all all the first to hear this version of the song, and if you feel inspired to collect it, thank you, and I appreciate you so much. Cheers to getting to know one another!

"Grateful" is about how to ease the blush of unfamiliarity when entering a new relationship. I wrote it when I made friends with the feeling of having just enough fuel to jump AND just enough fear to shut my eyes when I do it. This song is quite a bit more specific than my previous releases. As “Stuck” talked about trusting the feeling over the circumstance, and “Paint in the Dark” described the over-arching agreements that I have observed in the healthiest love, “Grateful” exemplifies these themes using the intimacy of a pillow talk conversation. It is about putting what I’ve learned into action and trusting what happens next.

This is song 2 from CACOPHONY, a new project from Reo Cragun and myself. CACOPHONY is a beautiful explosion. Deafeningly loud and chaotic and intimate at the same time.

The jig is up is honestly about reading through the facade and people’s BS. 

The road of an independent artist can be extremely difficult at first, but if you put in the work it can prove to be really rewarding. Fortunately now I’m in a position where I don’t have to jump at a major label deal anymore and have the means to comfortably support myself. Oddly enough it’s at that point when a lot of people come knocking to partner. 

We were really just having fun with this record and reflecting on the level we’ve gotten to based off hard work and staying consistent.

Having fun was so key with this one. Reo and I make a lot of heavy shit together (like the first single from CACOPHONY, HEAVEN) but it’s important to balance that with music that makes you feel good, makes you feel powerful. We love Kevin George’s energy and adding a feature just added to the excellent vibes.

wrote this last day in Brazil last week.

I first wrote "Alexandrine" while I was departing a long term relationship.  I linked up with one of my favorite producers /good friend Mark Evans to assist on instrumentation and production.  We released it fast and low key.  Not even a week after the release, our friend Grabbitz sent us this remix he titled "Grabbitz 1994 Version" -- which is a very sweet and subtle take on the original with added percussions and backing vocals.  Needless to say I was obsessed.  In fact, I was so excited that I forgot to release it.  But now feels like a good time.

i wrote “In My Head” after beating myself up for having the most outlandish thoughts.  humans think over 17,000 thoughts a day, on average, and often times we let those narratives drive us to some pretty insane beliefs.

your own mind can be your biggest enemy; flooded with wild ideas around the what ifs and how’s and when’s, or even "what would happen if i just stopped my car in the middle of the freeway right now?"

our mind can be more dangerous than the outside world; dictating your belief system about yourself & the world & persuading you to believe scenarios that are far from reality. “In My Head” was a response to the recognition of how important it is to not identify with each and every thought that infiltrates your brain, & to remind yourself of who you know u are at ur core <3 i hope you like it :’)

Surprise surprise, this is my new song I made with my talented friend VARI. It's an ode to underground raves.
I made this track in less than a week and working with VARI has honestly been insane. Our views and taste in music are very similar and this collab came out super easily.

You love to talk, but you don’t listen. This is one of the tracks that early on started to shape the upcoming, now completed project.  I was looking for a bridge between hip hop and live instrumentation, and also reggae?, and also Beatles-inspired grooves, and also something lighthearted that you could dance to.  Listen was the result.  I think music is a melting pot more than ever and I hope when people listen to my music they can references dozens of influences because that’s essentially how these songs are made.  But at the end of the day, the song feels like me.  If it didnt, we wouldn’t be here releasing it. 

Listen is track 4 off the new project, which I haven’t officially announced to the public.  But it is coming in December.  The project is a journey, almost feels like a road trip, reminiscent of a kerouac novel - but tinted by the strange, modern, polluted times we are in now.   

I remember playing this record after previewing Young Fel 2 to my label at the time.  We had just finished playing a lot of the darker records off of YF2 and some of the label heads had stepped out to take calls, and finish their business.  I continued playing unreleased records of mine and Listen was the first one I played after the album.  It lit up the room.  It felt like the light at the end of the tunnel and I remember my friend Clay (who did the artwork for this nft as well as all the upcoming ones), giving me this look of…shit, well when is that one dropping?  It didn’t fit on Young Fel 2 but I knew it’d find its place.  To me, its home is on this upcoming project.  Hope you all enjoy and thank you for listening and supporting.

I made this vibe tonight and wanted to release it to the world. Something out of my comfort zone that shouldn't have to live with just me. A present for those of you giving me a chance!

“Explorer” recreates a scene from the movie “Blade Runner 2049” in which the main character embarks on a process of searching for the truth to find out if he is a real being or a man-made artificial intelligence.
In this case, the scene created by me presents this character in total darkness, where everything is visible thanks to the light emanating from the ETH symbol which is a radiating source of energy. And the storyline of this scene gains new meaning as it is a quest for the understanding of the ETH blockchain as the ultimate truth, as a kind of creative source of life, as a kind of light of hope, and at the same time of uncertainty.
It is an ambiguous scene where we cannot be sure whether we are in the presence of the beginning or the end of a journey.

Expecto Patronum is a significant spell used in Harry Potter movies… charm conjures a magical guardian, a projection of all your most positive feelings. The charm will produce a shape of an animal or something you're sharing more affinity with.
Presenting here the Ethereum as the shape produced by our patronas charm, it's conveying the protection/ guardian for us from all the evils which lights the whole 'Diagaon Alley' (The gateway to the wizarding world).
Ethereum itself is the best representation of patronas charm if any of us would be producing the charm.
If taken from another perspective, The Resurrection Stone, one of the fables in deathly hallows, represents the exact figure of Ethereum.  It owns the power to recall its holder's loved ones from death.
So further we leave it to the audience to relate the resurrection stone to Ethereum.

This magical movie can be related to Ethereum as it is the same magic that happened to the web3 world. The miraculous change it brought over to the artists in every nook and cranny of the world. The light that Ethereum brought to everyone who believes in it made the same perfectly relate to this particular movie.

Son of a Gun.  One of my favorites off the upcoming album.  Something that feels like it has centuries of history behind it.  It was supposed to be the intro, then the outro, then found itself at track 10.  This song is probably the most New England//CT thing I’ve made.   I was scared of it for a while because of this reasons - it's out there. It has a lot of “Christian Felner” (my real name) in it.  Felly takes a seat for this one.  But it has this dark tone to it that I think is sacred and true to me. It feels like a horse.  You ever look into a horses eyes?  Feels like you can see hundreds of years in there.  I don’t think many people understand this song and I always look at people after playing it and just sitting with the fact that, from where I stand, it seems it went right over their head. The song is sort of about only being here for a period of time. The fragility of life, and how we're all alone.  And that feeling you can reach in life where there is no place to actually call home.  Being cast into the world alone…pretty much.  It comes from touring, from meeting so many strangers, and ultimately feeling like its still just me.  If you get this one you get it and if you don’t that's alright with me.
