‘Lightyears’ is an emotional anthem about finding your person, whether that’s a friend, a partner, a pet, or family. I wanted to create something that had a strong, emotional vocal and an uplifting trance-inspired drop. The song’s production showcases my love for uplifting piano melodies, arpeggiators, and vocal atmospheres.

Hi friends! I’m Parker, aka demotapes. I am a producer and artist based in San Francsico. 

I just released my debut EP, called “with friends”. It was a collection of songs I made with a few of my best friends in music. The process for the EP was pretty simple- I would start a demo idea, send it over to a friend, and we would work on it together. “staywithme” is one of the demos I made for this project, but just couldn’t quite find who I wanted to work on it with. So I wanted to give it to you ❤ 

I'm really excited to be working alongside my friends at Family Affair for this release. More on that soon :)

I'm digging this flow of releasing, everything different than the last.., as I build in the traditional sense getting ready to tour. - Every drop on here should serve all the easter eggs I'll ever make.

ABOUT THE RELEASE:

Welcome to the Fever Dream sessions.

The songs from this session have an energy that came from being pent up and isolated for over a year during lockdown, to being around each other again and playing music in the same room. And it wasn't just any room either, our friend Darrell Thorp invited us to record this 3-track session in the gorgeous rooms at The Village in LA.

After an anxious year of pandemics, covid variants, personal health scares, and all the other bad juju the quarantine era brought, this session was a perfect oasis to break the anxiety that had built up since the lockdown began.

That's why the joyous energy had us buzzing. How cool was it to be around each other again, playing music with the best people, in the best place? Hopefully, some of that good vibe comes through in the music, and that the songs will help release the feverish anxiety into joyous catharsis.

Track 1 of 3: Haymaker

Edson Choi on the meaning behind the song:

‘I used to be deeply religious, doing ministries and community outreach weekly. One day, the sum of my doubts just hit me. I realized this or any religion wasn't for me.
 
I had built my life up to that point around this ideology; my friends, my community and plans for the future were centered around this faith. But to stay would be to betray myself and my new epiphany. And so, despite the comfort of belief and loving friends I made through my years in the ministry, I walked away and had to relearn thinking and how I should be living.
 
This rude awakening hit me like a punch to the gut, a blinding haymaker to the face. 
 
The song came many years after that experience, and it instead of it being a bitter takedown of faith and belief, I hope it highlights the beauty in the flaws of our world now. I hope it gives the energy of appreciating the beauty of our world and this life here, not a distant heaven. I tried to capture this thought with the song's closing lines:
 
"I'm just staring at too many stars again…don't judge me, cause we're all gonna go sometime."’

“Crypto ₿oy” is a wake-up call for all the chart-watchers, candle-counters, and JPEG-flippers that find a way to bring crypto into any conversation, no matter what it’s about.

We all know them — checking OpenSea like it’s instagram, obsessing over prices, hodling this, shorting that and unable to focus on anything except Discord.

As exciting as crypto is, and as likely as it is to revolutionize finance in the coming years, I want to shift our attention to a very urgent issue, which is the possibility of SCOTUS overturning Roe v Wade. This attack on reproductive rights is something we should be talking about as loudly as a crypto boy talks about NFTs*. It’s imperative that we band together and fight to protect our fundamental rights. To help bring this together I partnered with Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot, who I love and respect, to create the custom art for this NFT.

‘Half Life’ has such a cool story and meaning in Rosalie’s journey, so I was honored when she asked me to put together a remix. The song mostly came together in the very first session as the original has some incredible material to work with. I just tried to bring the song into my own world by adding some new sounds and letting the idea flow freely. Really happy with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy, and thank you for listening.

A Message From Rosalie:
I remember the first time I heard a song by Green Ring on a Songcamp call. Something immediately perked up in me. He has this beautiful and unique way of taking me on a journey with his music that feels like I'm traveling somewhere between Dr. Who's time vortex and wherever it is that our imagination lives. I think one of the many things that draws me to Green Ring's music is his sense of melody. Even though his music is typically instrumental and slightly ambient, he has this pop sensibility woven through. When deciding that I wanted to do a remix for Half Life, my intuition told me to reach out to Green Ring. I was so excited when he said yes and so curious how he would interpret this song. I love that you can hear so much of both of us in this remix, and it has me dancing down the wormhole that his music always puts me in. The original song was about such a dark and sad time in my life, and how beautiful that writing about that time has brought in so many blessings. 



i wrote this one last year in LA - at the time i was stuck in an endless cycle of arguments with someone i was seeing, and eventually realized the easiest way through was to just apologize for a bunch of things i didn’t do. 

it smoothed things over in the moment lol but afterwards it really wasn’t sitting right with me, and i was carrying around a lot of regret for not standing my ground more. i had a session with sam affer & jae lee a few days later and wrote this hook

i hope none of you relate with this experience lol but if you do, don’t ever apologize for shit you didn’t do!!!

thennnn to meet deadline for my EP (which eventually got postponed anyway lol) i went to pirate studios in silverlake and wrote the verses / produced the entire hook in a day.

i tend to agonize over production choices / lyrics etc - i revisit my WIPs a lot - so being forced to make choices and commit to my initial ideas for this one was ultimately a really rewarding and new thing for me.

took a lot for me to settle on this final version, and sonically this is a big new jump for me, so i hope you love it as much as i do. xx
