_Desde Lejos_ is a series of generative digital paintings that explore the realms of memory and perception. Using nostalgia and pixels to create digital scenery, I revisit places and moments now part of my distant past. These fragmented landscapes are my interpretation of the prompt “On-chain, Off-line” for the Bright Moments Buenos Aires collection.

Heartstrings is a collection of 400 AI-assisted art pieces that capture the magic of childhood and the wonder of imagination. Inspired by my new daughter and the art I wanted to create for her room, the collection features a mix of real-life landscapes and fantasy elements, representing fleeting memories from childhood. Some pieces represent actual scenes from my past, while others are inspired by books I’ve read as a kid.

The breakthrough work of geneticists and biologists of the twentieth century decoded the sequencing of our DNA, and revealed the science behind what makes each of us who we are. As though the existence of this encoded blueprint must be seen to be believed, genetic sequencing has since been carefully and artfully visualized by scientists over the years – a human-assisted ‘reveal’ of nature’s great conceptual painting. 

These visualizations present snippets of our encoding through cryptic grids of colored rectangles – compositions of small marks that add up to define us, providing markers for specific traits that exist across people. These sequences become a shorthand for labeling who we are – yet, even in aggregate, these sequences cannot tell the full story of identity.

Of That Ilk imagines how the visualization of scientific sequencing would look if it included all the human attributes that we develop over time and that escape rigid definition. The fictional sequencing in this generative series reveals the blurring, blending, warping, overlapping, and shape-shifting of markings that represent each supposed attribute of our very identities. 

This aesthetic abstraction of data ends up feeling more like us than any objective definition attempted for our individual identities – and the imperfections and variety within these artful visualizations are a celebration of the vast difference in character and quality of every person. By furthering the artistic interpretation of our genetic codes, Of That Ilk appreciates the elegance of life's underlying instructions, while representing how each of us can see these blueprints through in unendingly unexpected ways.

Take the futurism of mid-1990s graphic design, merged with the fake-nostalgia vaporwave of a reimagining of Win95, channeled through the lens of modern generative art and you get FALLiNGWATER. Swapping Jolt Cola for Green Tea, Coral Draw and Photoshop 2.5 for code and a single poster design for an infinite number of variations, Daniel digs back into what made him love graphic design in the first place for his entry to the Flatlands group show.

By placing our trust in any of the "future techs" to solve today’s environmental problems, we run the risk of postponing the actions that mattered. Carbon capture is one of those technologies we’ve engaged in to give us an impression of action; perhaps, unconsciously, in order to cover up our anguish, our helplessness or our guilt. 

Yet we need to keep moving forward. Art has this kind of energy, charismatic and unifying. If I believe little in technology to save humanity, I keep hope in humanity, in its conscience, in the universality of its love. If only one power is given to artists, it is that of being able to touch, sometimes, the hearts of men.
 
"Landscape with Carbon Capture" is a critique of my own environmental consciousness as an artist working with technology around natural themes. Although I do not know any solution, although I am helpless just like you, I want to fight with what I’ve got. I want to acknowledge the great hypocrisy of our times. Carbon emissions are here to stay, they'll stain my canvas, no matter how green the colours on my palette.
