my 1st collab with reo and the 1st song ever minted on top of a blocktone. i couldnt have imagined something like this in my time but here we are. 

Gino, Stolar and Reo hit me up right around art basel with the idea to have a writing camp in miami where we could write fire songs to blocktones beats. i wanted to make sure that whatever we did, the music was right and we were pushing web3 forward. 

we had so much fun on this one. first, the beat was epic, and getting to make something right off a blocktone that reo owned - that we could do whatever we wanted with - was one of those moments where i really felt the magic of web3. 

the studio in miami was iconic also so the whole thing was inspiring as fxck. reo bodied the track of course. this is def one of my favorite collabs ive ever done. its a blessing to get to work with amazing people and live this life everyday.

Official stems from Criteria—the EP project by Daniel Allan and Reo Cragun. Recorded largely in Joshua Tree National Park in California on a TLM 103 running through an apollo for vox. Everything else was composed in Ableton; the project is super in-the-box and synth-heavy. Most everything was made from scratch with the Serum plugin. Sugar Baby takes us to another segment of our "FEVER" journey where I confide in a wealthy and privileged girl during emotional turmoil. This storyline is a satire based on the "Sugar Daddy" stereotypes we are more commonly familiar with, instead this script is reversed. I explore what life would be like with this upper-hand and privilege to combat my emotional hardships and the everyday challenges, battles, and fears of myself as well as many others have as a young man.

the lyrics are a blast of best wishes towards someone important in my life who has experienced and overcome an outsized amount of pain. it's a summer vibe that recognizes

I initially went to therapy for anxiety but quickly discovered it was more than just that.

Being present for people has always been a part of my DNA.  Growing up in a big family gently trained my heart to be intentional with those I love and just people in general. My grandfather was a kind soul and I always remember him teaching me and my cousins during the summers we spent together to watch out for one another. To protect one another. And to check on one another.

I remember at young age my mother walking by my room, peeking her head in and saying, “Hey son, what are you doing? Are you okay?” And in turn as I got older and matured, I would do the same to her…every so often asking her what she was doing and making sure her heart and mind were settled. And if not, she was very open with me about it.

And so, as the years have gone by, I do my best to echo that gesture to others. My family, my friends, and even some just people I know. Randomly, consistently, and genuinely checking in. However, I’ve also come to learn over the years that not all people have the habit of checking on their friends built into their DNA.

Being the strong friend of my circle and influencer of other friend circles also gives me the reasonability to share and spread that sentiment that we should really take time to check on our friends. Because after spending so much time consistently, intentionally, and genuinely checking in on people…I suddenly realized I needed some of those same people to check on me. 

I initially went to therapy for anxiety but quickly discovered I had feelings buried deep beneath my heart that were soon unsurfaced…and inspired me to write this song.
