"Fun with Fractals"

What you see here is the result of a lot of perseverance.  Me making it all the way to Day 50 is also the result of perseverance.  

The work in this started as a "standard" geometric abstract piece that I didn't like much, so I took what it was and shrunk it down and arranged it amongst a bunch of copies of itself, to try and see if that would look interesting to me.  Sadly, it did not.  I tried stacking them in ever shrinking sizes to see if that would look interesting, it wasn't.  Then I took the "shrunk and arranged" version, shrunk that down even further, and tried laying them down end to end like bricks, to make some sort of "path" that would wind around the canvas.  It continued to not look interesting to me, but boy had I put a lot of work into trying to make something look good at this point, so I didn't want to just stop.  

Eventually I "enclosed" the winding path to make this shape that is now repeated seven around the canvas.  I copied and shrunk it and arranged the smaller versions on the big one, and now it was starting to look whimsical and fun to me, and not at all like the initial (or 2nd or 3rd or 4th) idea I had in mind for the piece.  At this point I was strongly reminded of the old computer game Lemmings I grew up playing. To match the whimsical composition I chose some nice pastel colors.  I played with making the cream color "walls" darker and more wall-like, and making the big shape we are looking at to be more clearly an open view out to the sky.  Ultimately though I found this cream color played best with the other colors and outweighed the benefits I got from the other options I tried.  I also like this piece rotated 90 degrees clockwise, but I think this orientation shows a bit more clearly the fractal nature of the shapes.
