As an art teacher from the sleepy southern town of Daegu, Korea, she spent nearly a decade of nights in quiet devotion to her craft, diligently blending molten beeswax and pigment onto wood, showing her creations to no one. In the heart of Sindorim, Seoul's old metal workers' neighborhood, I stumbled across a weathered wall that begged for artistic transformation. Against a backdrop of textured metal blues, I constructed my own biomechanical jungle where rocks, flowers, leaves, and metallic debris seamlessly fused together, giving birth to a singular landscape that breathed life into the urban surroundings.

[Boyane]
Boyane Zelechowski (AKA "Boyane”) is Seoul-based graffiti artist who has proven himself a significant influence on Korea’s international graffiti scene. Originally from France, Boyane brought a fresh perspective to the Korean streets when he moved to Seoul with his Korean wife over a decade ago, captivating audiences with his vibrant illustrations and a skillful interplay of contrasting colors. His work seamlessly integrates with the historical charm of Seoul's streets, buildings, and exterior walls, quickly establishing Boyane as a leading figure in Korea's street art scene.
 
While initially influenced by European subcultures, Boyane's artistic evolution took an intriguing path as he immersed himself in Korean culture. His distinctive style, characterized by intricate patterns and oriental hues, effortlessly evolved to incorporate Korean traditional elements, reflecting the cultural richness of his adopted home. Boyane continues to take on new challenges based on his innate artistic sense and illustration ability, and in addition to murals, has participated in numerous international exhibitions, illustrations, and corporate projects.

In Korea, spray paint is noticeably more expensive than in Europe, which affects the way artists interact with street murals. Here, many people use brushes. Since my arrival in 2016, I’ve also adapted this approach to challenge myself, a shift that has allowed for a more intricate and detailed execution, particularly in lettering and finer details. This naturally lead to a more pronounced expression of my own graphic style during the creative process, which was heavily influenced by underground comics from my youth.

At some point, unfamiliar but beautiful graffiti began to take over the underpasses, rooftops, and streets of Seoul, and at the center of it all was the artist Drol. A French-born graffiti virtuoso who embraced Korea as his home in 2016 alongside his Korean wife, Drol's journey into street art commenced in his teenage years, fueled by a passion for subcultures like rap, hip-hop, and classic comics. His distinct graffiti style, a fusion of underground comics and 19th-century European painting, transforms forgotten corners of Korea—abandoned factories, old walls, and underground passages—into whimsical worlds of fantasy and fairy tales. Drol's ability to seamlessly blend unfamiliar elements with the historical backdrop of his adopted home has solidified his status as one of Korea's most important and recognizable graffiti artists. Beyond the streets, he showcases his artistic versatility through illustrations, exhibitions, installations, and tattoos.
Having left his mark in France's International Biennale and various residency programs, Drol continues his artistic journey in Korea, collaborating on projects commemorating the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Korea, and even joining forces with industry giants like Sony Pictures and Mini Cooper.
His chosen artist name, Drol, cleverly reflects the playful duality of a street artist, embodying the transition from 'DROL' (clown) to 'LORD' (absolute one).

[Artime Joe]
Artime Joe, also known as Yoo In-Jun, is one of Korea’s most important and influential graffiti artists. Since founding JNJ CREW in 2001, he has been instrumental in chronicling the evolution of Korean street art, from its humble beginnings in the early 2000s when there was no graffiti to commanding stages in hip-hop and B-boy performances. Known for his imaginative reinterpretations of international cultural icons like Michael Jordan, Bugs Bunny, and Dragon Ball characters, he introduced "The Cappers" (Cap Man), a distinctive character that has become his most recognizable creation. Beyond national borders, Artime Joe joined the international graffiti crew Stick Up Kids in 2010 and has since travelled to over 20 countries for exhibitions and mural projects across Europe, Asia, and North America. As one of Korea’s most respected Korean graffiti artists, Artime Joe continues to leave an indelible mark on the global graffiti landscape.
